Fire pits are great any time of year. In the cooler weather, a warm fire becomes a glorious focal point to get cozy next to, and it the summer, an outdoor fire become part of a festive backyard gathering. Either way, you’ve gotta make some s’mores! If you’ve never had a fire pit before, there are few different styles to consider for your backyard.

Wood Burning

If you love the smell of logs on a fire, you may want to consider a wood burning fire pit. This is probably the fire pit at its most basic, and if you have a clear space on your patio or in your yard, you can probably accommodate a wood burning fire pit. There are several different ways to do this:

  • Stand-alone fire pit – These stand independently and can be moved as needed.
  • Stone or brick – This is a more permanent structure and can be done professionally or DIY
  • Outdoor fireplace – Operates just like an indoor fireplace

Natural Gas

Another way to create a fire pit is via natural gas. If your home is already equipped for natural gas, this is a convenient option that doesn’t require you to keep up with a woodpile. Natural gas fire pits can be recessed in the ground or built into a table or raised space, creating a dramatic look.

Propane

If natural gas won’t work for you, and you don’t want to hassle with wood, a propane fire pit could work well for you. They can be either permanent or portable.
