Do you ever get to the point where you realize your kitchen has turned into a mess of clutter? You set a cookbook down over there, place a pan over here, put a few snacks on the table, and the next thing you know, it’s hard to find what you need. Here are some tips for staying organized in the kitchen and making your space more functional.
A Backsplash With Function
A backsplash is a great way to add some color or texture to the kitchen, but it can be much more than decorative. Consider the backsplash to be another spot for storage—add a small shelf and use it to keep items within convenient reach, like spoons, salt, pepper, and olive oil.
Improvised Shelving
Large, flat items like cookie sheets and cutting boards are notoriously hard to store. Invest in a few adjustable tension curtain rods and install them vertically in a cabinet. This will essentially create racks that are suddenly much more useful for vertical storage.
Clean Up
Turn one of those hanging shower caddies into an under-the-sink storage spot. The caddy can hang on the back of a sink cabinet and can store sponges and detergents when you’re not using them.
Storage in Style
Shelves are of course perfect for storage, but they can begin to look cluttered if you’re not careful. Choose interesting creates or baskets to store snacks and supplies on the shelves. If you go with creates, consider installing a drawer pull so you can retrieve it easily.
Display Plates
If you own beautiful platters, keep them on display! If you’ve run out of shelf space in the kitchen, consider installing a display rack in the dining room.
